An unexpected phone call at 10pm is usually not good news. Thuli’s came in 2014. Her fiancé had passed away in a car accident. He’d just gone to pick up a gift for their son’s 5th birthday… 

Her world fell apart. Sihle’s funeral took place on their young child’s birthday. 

Thuli was also in her 4th month of pregnancy and developed overwhelming stomach pain with spotting. The doctor ascribed it to stress. And maintained that opinion for a month, in spite of increasing, excruciating pain. 

When her fiance’s medical aid was cancelled, Thuli’s options for medical care became limited. This additional insecurity sent her reeling into emotional agony.

Suspecting a misdiagnosis, Thuli’s employer offered to pay for tests elsewhere. 

Thuli was referred to a specialist hospital. She’d unfortunately lost the baby. A high white cell blood count and clotting around her bladder also led to the detection of malignant cells. 

Cancer of the uterus was diagnosed and chemotherapy was required. Deeply traumatised already, Thuli commenced in hospital treatment of 8 months. 

Today, Thuli is 37 and finally Cancer-free. She’s able to truly be a nurturing mother and looks forward to a brighter future with her beautiful 16-year-old son. 

Thuli is a unique star that sparkles against the sombre backdrop life presented her with before. A shining example of devoted parenthood, she’s also a symbol of new beginnings and hope. Thuli’s story needs to be heard by all survivors of trauma.
