At the age of 26, Remofilwe was shocked when she unexpectedly discovered a lump in her left breast. 

On getting medical attention, she was first misdiagnosed and only reminded of her mammogram. On getting a second opinion, stage 2 Breast Cancer was diagnosed. 

The emotional and psychological challenges of the experience are always immense. These were – and still are – major factors for Remofilwe. 

Most of her family lived far away and this created a gap that left her feeling even more vulnerable. The people around her didn’t exactly know to show the caring love in their hearts. For many, hers was the first serious illness they’d ever experienced personally. For others, Remofilwe had always been the strong one. 

In the 5 years since, her fear that the disease may show up again, resurfaces with every annual.  She’s become a parent and feels scared that she may not live long enough. 

Remofilwe often feels concerned that her daughter may have inherited the same genetic pattern and will one day also get a Breast Cancer diagnosis. 

But, in spite of it all being truly challenging, Remofilwe does concede that the experience had forced her to deepen the roots of her faith.
